Grandpa Fred's Yearbook Pictures

On my trip to Norfolk, I got to look at all four of my grandpa's yearbooks at Norfolk High School. Here are the pictures.

1939 Freshmen class. Fred (Duane) is in the second row in the middle. Looks like a young David Schwimmer.

This is when I learned that my grandpa, who I always knew as being called Fred, went by Duane in high school. Likely to distinguish him from his father, Fred. For the 1939 band picture:
Duane Schafer

List of activities, continued. He loaded it up senior year! Boys ensemble, chorus, band, Musicale, small instrumental groups, Telital (newspaper), Milestone (yearbook), and FFA. Busy guy!

  1. 1942 senior picture totally looks like the Fred Schafer I met when Scott and Jayne got married. Great compilation -- nice work, Megan! (Uncle Mark)

    1. Thanks! It was really fun to go through all the yearbooks. All I knew of his high school years was that he played trombone.
